Here are your choices:

Buy a second hand replacement engine. This is probably the easiest option if your engine is going to be cotly to fix. Prices for a high mileage engine start at around 200 pounds and can go up to 1000 for a very low mileage one.  Easy to fit if you have a crane and someone willing to help. If you cant do it yourself there are usually people on the forums who can fit an engine for you for some cash in hand and free tea.

Get it fixed. I cant really comment on this being an option unless you add more details of the problem. The miximum price youll pay for a full rebuld inclduing new parts and pumps would be around 2500 inclduing all labour. Cheaper jobs are usually cheaper because the quality is not so high and the engine not so good. If the fault is simple you might be able to fix it yourself.

not sure, it went bang at motorway speeds and then lost all power. when rolling it in gear it doesn't budge so I'm assuming it's seized. Haven't any real experience with this car last time I did any engine work was in 1991 on a vw beetle.

Difficult to advise you with so little information. Best off getting a mechanic to look at it.
